# Himalayan salt versus sea salt versus pharmaceutical NaCl — why does it matter?

## Answer

Three jobs, often three salts.

**Generator salt** in an active room is typically **pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride**. The point is a known, dry, grindable NaCl for the aerosol — not a souvenir rock.

**Finish salt** (bricks, panels, lamps) is mostly what the room looks like. Himalayan pink is common because it photographs. It is not automatically what you breathe.

**Floor salt** is what you walk, rake, or lie on. Some houses use Himalayan. Some use sea salt. Angelina’s own Hood River cave uses Baja Gold sea salt on the floor and does not use Himalayan — that is her lived practice and her reasons, not a law this magazine imposes on every owner.
