# Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

## Answer

Sometimes people use HSA or FSA funds for wellness services when their plan and a clinician’s **letter of medical necessity** line up. Sometimes they cannot. The rules are yours, your administrator’s, and the tax authority’s — **not this magazine’s**.

We will not tell you to submit a cave receipt as a medical expense. We will not tell you not to. That would be tax or benefits advice, and this Asker does not give it.

Ask your HSA/FSA administrator. Ask your physician if they will even write a letter. Ask the cave for a plain receipt, not a fake diagnosis code.

Honest rest is still worth cash if that is what you have.
