# What if I feel lightheaded or start coughing during the session?

## Answer

Get up and tell the host. You are allowed to leave a salt room. There is no prize for finishing an hour that feels wrong.

A mild cough or extra mucus can happen. Lightheadedness that does not pass, wheeze, chest pain, or panic is not “the salt working.” That is stop, air, water, host, and — if it is more than a passing dip — your physician or emergency care like you would anywhere else.

Bring prescribed inhalers into the building if you use them; do not leave them in the car as a test of the cave. If you already know you are scent-sensitive or claustrophobic, say so when you book so the host is not guessing in the dark.

This magazine has not published a first-aid protocol for every cave. Houses should have one. Ask if that matters to you.
