# Can I wear perfume, essential oils, or smoke-scented clothes?

## Answer

Please don’t.

A salt room is a small volume of still air. Perfume, essential-oil rollers, aftershave, and clothes that smell like last night’s campfire or a cigarette break become everyone else’s session. People with asthma or scent sensitivity came here to breathe. You can take that away in one doorway.

Wash your hands of strong lotion if you can. Leave the oils in the car. If your coat smells like smoke, leave the coat too.

This is courtesy, and in many houses it is a posted rule. It is not this magazine being delicate. If you already arrived scented, tell the host — they may reschedule you rather than wreck a shared hour. That is not a punishment. It is the room.
